FAQs

How often should i do the individual sessions/functional integration?

It is most beneficial to do the individual sessions in clusters, to maximize your learning, with periods of pause in between. Consider twice a week for 1-3 weeks, and then a few weeks of pause. Of course how you approach it is up to you! If you are new to Feldenkrais, it is especially helpful to commit to 2-4 sessions within a period of a few weeks to start out.

how often should i do the group classes/awareness through movement?

One lesson a week is, as Moshe would say, "like throwing sugar in the ocean to sweeten it." Understandable, although we all have to start somewhere. Ideally, you are developing your own practice of self-study that goes beyond an individual session or group class. The concepts of Feldenkrais are applicable, and a wonderful compliment, to other practices and activities you may already engage in. Our zoom classes are all recorded and available for you to repeat and explore at any time on your own. The one on one work is like a concentrated version of the classes and the combination of the two is an excellent way to accelerate change.

what should i wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in, for classes and individual sessions.

Who is Moshe Feldenkrais?

Dr Feldenkrais lived from 1904 - 1984. He was born in Russia, and immigrated to Israel at the age of thirteen. After receiving degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering, he earned his D.Sc. in Physics at the Sorbonne in Paris. He subsequently worked for a number of years in the French nuclear research program with Joliet Curie.

Physically active, Feldenkrais played soccer and practiced the martial arts. He studied with Jigoro Kano, the originator of Judo, and in 1936 became one of the first Europeans to earn a black belt in that discipline.

A chronic knee injury prompted him to apply his knowledge of physics, body mechanics, neurology, learning theory and psychology to a new understanding of human function and maturation. His investigations resulted in the formulation of a unique synthesis of science and aesthetics, known as the Feldenkrais Method.
